Lac Daumesnil and the Bois de Vincennes

During a short-lived, hot spell in Paris, with temperatures reaching 28 degrees, chilling in the sun at Hotel de Ville, watching Roland Garros during my lunch break {very thankful that they are two hours at that point!}, I had a surprise visitor, all the way from home, Mr Daniel-Thomas!

That weekend we packed a picnic in true French style, baguette and wine - bien sûr! took out a vélib and cycled to Vincennes, a small commune in the Val-de-Marne neighbourhood in the eastern suburbs of Paris just 6.7km from the city centre. Just a 15 minute cycle later, we disposed of our bikes and walked in search of the perfect picnic spot around Lac Daumesnil, a beautiful lake located on the south-western side of the woods - Bois de Vincennes - and spans over 12 hectares with two beautiful and distinct islands. After a chilled out lunch in the Parisian sunshine, Daniel and I {mostly I} were excited to rent out a rowing boat {with the picture of The Notebook in my mind!} and go for a romantic row around the lake and the two islands. At just 11,80€ for an hour, it was well worth it!

One of my favourite places in Paris, one of my favourite weekends Paris, with my favourite person in the world... I'd definitely recommend it to anyone and we will be making the most of it in the summertime before I leave Paris...

Happy summer solstice!
